It was the second time in as many days that reports of a Roman woman fell upon ear. It was enough to pique interest, but the woman arrived in childbirth, an event Caesar felt no desire to witness. Yet now new reports fell upon ear - the woman stood no less than Ilithyia, fallen wife of that fool, Gaius Claudius Glaber. Caesar had often thought it was cruel fate that wives must so often fall with husbands, though it was not a sentiment he would have widely known.

In Darrow, the dead woman lived, and it was enough to put new speed to feet. Having become adept with use of the glowing information boxes, Caesar found her swiftly. He stood before her door, passing a hand over his unshorn face. He stood among few Romans now, and though he yet favored loose leather shorts over the blue leggings worn by most men in Darrow, he did not present reflection of home.

It still seemed strange that there was no slave to announce him, but Caesar was familiar with new custom. He raised a fist and let it fall smartly against the door.
